Spreading The Roots

The project Spreading the Roots explores a new approach to touring and collaboration with international partner organisations. The key objectives of the project are: 1. learning and exchanging new approaches to dealing with the topics of fighting climate change and diversity and inclusion; 2. strengthening the collaboration between partner organisations. To achieve this, we propose an in-depth partnership by exchanging presentations of performances and knowledge with partner organisations. The central piece of the project is the contemporary circus performance Forest (Gozd), dealing with the topics of climate change, ecofeminism and impending environmental cataclysm, that will be presented in all four partnership countries. The performance will be first presented in Slovenia at the 2025 Reciklart festival. Following this, the creative team (6 persons) will visit each of the partner countries (Croatia, Romania, Slovakia) for a one-week residency, during which they will train 5 local female performers from each country to present the performance Forest in theirn with local organisers and also for the exchange of knowledge and approaches. The performance Forest will thus be presented at the Periskop festival in Rijeka, Croat respective local surroundings. This will allow for more in-depth and mutual collaboratioia; at the In:vsbl festival in Temisoara, Romania, and at the Kulturfabrik in Košice, Slovakia, always with a different cast of local performers.

In addition to this, each of the partner organisations will present one of their own performances at the 2025 Reciklart festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This will enable all the partners to meet during the Reciklart festival in order to get to know each other better and share creative approaches to the topics of diversity, inclusion and fight against climate change. This is meant to encourage partner organisations to engage more with the project, as they will also have the opportunity to present their own work and methodology and to learn new approaches and meet new potential partners for future collaboration. The long-term objective is to start building a wider network of organisations in the part of Europe that historically belonged to the socialist bloc, in order to raise the general awareness of the topics of inclusion and fight against climate change.

Lead partner: Matafir Association, Slovenia
